Artist Statement:
The Last Judgment is the sacred text at the center of the Church of the Damned; an interdisciplinary exploration into the intersection between religious depictions of the apocalypse and images of the current ecological crisis. Just as medieval depictions of doomsday were used to maintain control through fear to guide its paritianers to be more “godly,” this church uses authoritarian dictation of moral judgment to force attendees to reconsider their relationship with nature and their place in the modern apocalypse. The Last Judgment brings illuminated manuscripts into the modern era through its pointed illustrations and scathing narrative. The confluence of modern images and medieval aesthetic, this book highlights the intersection between biblical fears and modern realities.
